what a wonderful week we have had. Such a mix of climatic conditions and sensory experiences. I found it enjoyable to walk in the snow, rain and sunshine, all allowing me to connect more to nature, and see life as it is…full of ups and downs and changes. In fact, look out the window, right now, if you are in Preston. It is snowing !!
It was fabulous to see more men on our Learn Tos this week and we hope for more in coming weeks and months. In fact, we have a Learn To in Chorley’s Astley Park next Saturday so if you know any men who desire to climb a significant peak in the Lake District or elsewhere in the world, then perhaps learning the correct Nordic walking technique will assist them up that climb with grace and ease for many years to come.
It has been nice to see the start of the Winter Olympics, and to watch the cross-country skiing and biathlon. They say that cross-country skiers are the fittest athletes on the planet and that Nordic walking originated from their need to continue to train during the summer months when there wasn’t any snow. I remember cross-country skiing from when I lived in the Czech Republic. Back then, as my former self, it was tough, and I can’t say I fully enjoyed it. After a few years of Nordic walking though, I feel it would be a challenging, yet fun and rewarding experience.
I’ll ask the Social Committee if they fancy a long weekend early next year in Nove Mesto na Morave. An opportunity, perhaps, to try cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, watch a live Biathlon, and sample Czech cuisine. I am not sure Gin is so popular over there, but they do have some excellent beers and wines.
Here are your walks for this week:
Monday 18:45 Chorley Wanderer – Astley Park
Tuesday 6:30 Rising Stars – Moor Park Central
Tuesday 18:30 Buckshaw Roamer – Buckshaw Tesco car park
Wednesday 18:15 – Evening Workout Walk – Haslam Park
Friday 9:30am – Matt’s Friday Roamer – Avenham Park
Saturday 9:15 am – Rise and Shine – Avenham Park
Have a fantastic week. All the best.
