Just back from holiday, feeling refreshed, and ready to take on September. It’s a busy month ahead. Johnny is starting high school. Lenka is feeling the effects of entering her 3rd trimester. Lots of exciting opportunities arising for spreading the word about Nordic walking in our area.
In fact, this week all the major newspapers published shocking statistics about how “Public Health England (PHE) said 41% of the 15.3 million English adults aged 40 to 60 walk less than 10 minutes continuously each month at a brisk pace of at least 3mph.” Also “that the health benefits include increased fitness, improved mood, a healthier body weight and a 15% reduction in the risk of dying prematurely.”
It has inspired me to be more proactive in challenging businesses to promote walking and Nordic walking to their ‘sedentary’ staff.
I also would like to encourage you into a #movemore challenge. The complexities of setting up a fair and rigorously checked and approved challenge require too much admin for our small team to manage this month with the level of professionalism I would like to see. However, let’s encourage and inspire you Nordic Walkers from Preston to MOVE MORE by keeping things simple.
For the month of September if you can prove that you have done a minimum of TWO Nordic walks a week, i.e. a minimum of 8 Nordic walks booked via the Nordic Walking Preston online system during September, then I will put all names into a hat and draw out 5 people who will each WIN a purple Nordic Walking Preston logo emblazoned T-shirt. The WIN for each of you will be the benefit you receive to your health from being consistent in your walking, but I hope the chance of a free T-shirt will encourage some friendly competition.
We shall revisit this challenge next year and have more categories and targets to challenge each and every one of you, no matter where you are on your journey to health and fitness.
Driving round Preston you will now see the Run Preston 10k/5k event banners. This event is taking place on the 24th of September. We are encouraging all Nordic Walking Preston members to attend this event, and why not get in some practice this week with our Guild Wheel walks, or our Barton Grange Food & Drink Festival walk.
