Welcome to March. Ever closer to the clocks changing and the summer arriving, this has been one funny week. Cold wind, snow and ice have meant conditions have been tricky underfoot and consequently with your health and safety at the forefront of our interests we have had to cancel several walks.
Obviously we want you to walk regularly, but it can be better not to walk and slip or trip, than walk and find oneself with a bruise or break that could interfere with your walking for longer than just one week.
Fabulous walk though both Friday and Saturday. Some amazing icicles seen from the railway bridge over the Ribble.
Whilst wintry all week, it was great that we managed to have such wonderful weather for our Downham Adventure walk last Sunday.
Did you enjoy the Adventure walk, or wished you had attended after seeing the photoalbum? Well, on Friday the Social Committee met for a meal and a discussion about walks for the second quarter of the year, and so passionate were they about planning exciting Nordic walking opportunities for you, that we ended up planning dates for Adventure walks for the whole of 2018, as well as the Christmas meal, and even a winter holiday and summer holiday for 2019. Cracking dedication from the team. Exciting times ahead. Dates and locations will be released soon !
Learn To – 9th March
Please note that on Friday we have our next technique course in Nordic Walking. Do you have any friends or family who are missing out on all the fun? Get them booked on !
Gin Festival – 10th March
There are 30-35 members off to Blackpool Tower on an “educational visit” to the Gin Festival next Saturday 10th March. The coach will leave The Twelve Tellers at 11.30am and just one golden ticket is left if anyone is interested. Any queries or concerns should be directed to Di Duckworth.
Adventure Walk – 25th March
Join Nordic Walking Preston on Sunday 25th March as we head to ‘Another Place’ – somewhat controversial, yet a beautifully interesting piece of art spread across 3.2 km of Crosby beach.
We aim to meet at Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre where a light brunch can be had while waiting for those who don’t want breakfast, or who forgot to move their clocks forward the night before…..
We are considering the option of catching the train towards Formby and, numbers permitting, offering alternative walk distances back towards the Iron Men. This will be a thrilling and challenging experience of walking through dunes and on sand. The route will include some time walking on and across the beach to explore the statues en-route back to the cars (car sharing can be organised).
If the option of the car park and train is used then it will cost approximately £5 per person on the day.
If you are a Nordic walker from any other location or national NW group then please get in touch with the NWP Social committee to make final arrangements for when and where to meet up.
Here are your walks for this week:
Monday 18:45 – Chorley Wanderer – Astley Park
Tuesday 6:30 – Rising Stars – Moor Park Central
Tuesday 18:30 – Buckshaw Roamer – Buckshaw Tesco car park
Wednesday 18:15 – Evening Workout Walk – Haslam Park
Friday 9:30am – Matt’s Friday Roamer – Avenham Park
Saturday 9:15 am – Rise and Shine – Winckley Sq – PLEASE NOTE that due to the Gin Festival the walk today will start from Winckley Sq and end at the Twelve Tellers leaving enough time to grab a breakfast before heading home or onto the Gin Bus leaving 11:30am to the festival.
Have a fantastic week. All the best.
