NWP News 07/07/2019

Good evening,

hope you’ve had a lovely weekend soaking up the sunshine.

Congratulations to Liz McGrath who completed the Moonlight and Memories walk from St Catherine’s Hospice and to Angela Clarke and Paul Atherton who completed the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride earlier today.

Congratulations also to Johnny who broke a club record at his #PSC Club Championships this weekend.

Congratulations to everyone else who continued to be awesome walking our regular walks, and elsewhere for fun and fitness.

Grassington Adventure Walk

Just a few weeks away now this approximately 8-mile Adventure walk is sure to please. Numbers are ramping up already. But should you still not have managed to book your place yet then here is the link.

Learn To Nordic Walk

We welcomed 4 new Nordic Walkers to our tribe this weekend. In the usual setting of Miller and Avenham Parks they were also able to see hundreds of people participating in the Be The Hero Assault Course challenge. We are only mentioning this, of course, as a reminder for those who said they are going to book on next year. Any clue who that may be Chris and Steph?

Our next LTNW course is on Saturday 27th July 10:30 at Avenham Park and Wednesday 31st July 19:30 at Avenham Haslam Park.

Please see below for links.

COACH trip to Whitby

Apologies for last week’s error with the actual route of the walk. The Cinder Track is the preferred route for our Whitby Adventure Walk.

The walk is planned from Robin Hood Bay and will be approx 10km in distance.

It would be of great help to the planning team to get your expressions of interest by you booking on to the walk NOW.  Please use this link to book.

This will allow us to gauge numbers and work out the unit price and viability of securing the coach for the return journey. If we can get numbers up we will aim to keep costs down to approx £20 pp.

UCLAN Research Studies

Would you be interested in participating in a study at UCLAN at their state-of-the-art Biomechanics Laboratory?

1) This study aims to investigate differences in knee biomechanics of healthy individuals and also those who have previously experienced an ACL injury.

2) We are conducting a study to determine whether ankle braces can help those with ankle instability and prevent instability in those without.

3) We are conducting a study to look at how footwear with different amounts of cushioning affects the biomechanics of running.

4) We are conducting a study to look at how oral supplementation of tart cherry can help those who suffer from knee pain.

5) We are conducting a study to determine whether toe-out walking and lateral orthotics can help prevent knee injuries.

To find out more detail or to take part in any of the above studies please contact Dr Jonathan Sinclair (jksinclair@uclan.ac.uk).

Each study will require approx 45 mins – 1 hour of your time.

Here are your walks for this week:

Monday 18:45 – Chorley Wanderer – Lock & Quay with Matt

Tuesday 18:45 – Timeout Tuesday – Broughton Business Park North with Sue & Andy

Wednesday 18:15 – Wednesday Workout – Haslam Park with Matt

Friday  9:30am – Friday Roamer – Friday Roamer, Cuerden Valley Park with Angela
