what a beautiful day it has been. We had breakfast in the garden – a nice treat considering the weather we’ve had this week. Warm, sunny, birds chirping away and a feeling like we were on holiday. We then gave some much needed TLC to our shrubs and bushes to make them feel proud to be in our garden – they had been looking a little overgrown and forlorn as we looked on them eating our breakfast. Then we went out to Cleveleys for a walk on the prom and had fish and chips for lunch by the sea. Sun, sand, seagulls and salt – quite a combination.
Finally a drop in at the grandparents for tea and cake and a natter on the way home.
A day of rest, relaxation, connection and still managing to #walkamileadayinmay.
I trust you have had an equally fun, relaxing yet active day. I’ve seen many fab photos on Facebook.
Your review will help us build our community
We would like to kindly ask any Facebook users in our group to leave us a testimonial review on our Nordic Walking Preston Business Facebook Page if you have benefitted in any way since joining us. And thank you kindly if you already have.
Social media platforms like Facebook or LinkedIn are constantly changing their algorithms and making it more difficult for content to show up on other people’s feeds.
We are always keen to grow our community of like-minded, healthy, active, positive individuals and one way we can do this is cracking the code of greater reach on social media. One such way of supporting this process is by acquiring positive reviews on our Facebook page.
Someone somewhere is sitting on their couch feeling either frumpy, or feeling down, or in pain, or lonely, or thinking their injury means they can’t get back to a level of fitness they once knew. Hearing from you how Nordic walking, our community of friends, and anything else you have subsequently achieved since joining us might just help them choose to book on a taster session (and we have plenty on the system – see below if you’d like to recommend any booking links).
Where could they be in 3 months, 12 months, 36 months from now if they start with us?
We kindly therefore ask you to write anything and as much as you like about how Nordic Walking and the Nordic Walking Preston community has helped you in any way. It will only take 2 minutes.
Should you need any guidance here is a short video that explains where to find the Review section on a Facebook page.
Floating Experience Wednesday 29th May
Over the past few weeks (months and years) we have been telling you about the many benefits of magnesium, Epsom baths, and recently floating sessions.
We have teamed up with The Mandala Centre, based in Broughton, to bring you exclusive discounts on floats. A single float bought directly from the Mandala Centre is priced at £35. If you book through Nordic Walking Preston you can take advantage of the £20 per float offer.
What we would like to do next is invite you to a Floating Experience evening.
This will be held on Wednesday 29th May and will follow the regular Wednesday evening walk (the start location of the walk on this evening will be from the Mandala Centre and we shall walk along part of the Guild Wheel).
We shall provide light evening refreshments for guests.
Paul, the new owner, will show a video explaining about the benefits of floating, he shall take us around the centre and show us the float pods, and there will be time for questions and answers.
On a first come first served basis there will be a limited number of opportunities for 15-minute taster sessions in the pods. Please bring swimwear
Please reserve approx 2 hours in your diary for the whole event, but one hour should be enough for the introduction to floating excluding the actual float tasters.
To book your place please use this link Floating taster session. We are limiting the number of spaces to 8 owing to the size of the centre.
If you would like to attend but cannot make the walk, then simply book your place and meet us at The Mandala Centre as we return from our walk.
Adventure Walk – Grasmere Recce
Join us on Sunday 19th May for our annual Grasmere recce. Such a fantastic walk in the beautiful Lake District. Try the Grasmere Gallop route before the event which will take place on Saturday 1st June this year.
Book your place on the Adventure walk here.
Whinlatter 25th May
Join walk leader Andy for this now infamous 10k event up at Whinlatter. This year the event is earlier than had been scheduled in previous years in an attempt to avoid midgie attacks after the race. It is a reasonably challenging course with some heart-rate raising inclines, but the view from the top is worth it.
Book yourself via this link.
The NWUK concept of speedhyking is starting to gain traction around the country in the Nordic walking community.
Speedhyking is effectively the bridge between nordic walking and running with poles.
If you would like to build up your fitness levels, occasionally do something a little bit more energetic with your nordic walking poles, but don’t fancy an all out run, then speedhyking might just be for you.
We aim to trial speedhyking sessions such that within the typical one-hour time frame we will explore some interesting terrain trails outside of Preston.
The sessions will be planned to include some tuition and actual speedhyking over some technical ground, and terrain traversing at an elevated pace. The distance covered will likely be less than what we cover in our regular weekly walks, but heart-rate will be raised higher, and muscles and joints will be tested further.
The question remains….are you game?
Good luck to the Guild Wheelers
10 of our group shall be walking the Guild Wheel tomorrow. The weather is looking quite promising, but please take plenty of water, snacks and appropriate protection from the sun.
They will all certainly have completed their #walkamileadayinmay come Monday evening.
I don’t expect any of the group to be joining us on the Astley to Yarrow walk Monday evening (although you are more than welcome), which will be a fantastic stroll from Astley Park at the end of a warm day.
Not attending the Guild Wheel walk? Come join us on our Astley to Yarrow walk.
