NWP News 14/07/2019

Good morning,

I missed the opportunity to email last night owing to some tennis match that dragged on for hours πŸ˜‰

The working week has begun for us workers, so I won’t keep you with a long email.

Here are some highlights and things to look out for.

Successful social evening at The Hunters

20 of us met on Friday evening at The Hunters on Hennel Lane, Bamber Bridge. The place looked smart having just undergone some development work. The service was sharp and friendly. The food was tasty and the portions were quite robust. It was a warm evening and the company was great.

The additional bonus was that it ended up being a free meal owing to the fact that we had our deposits returned for the sadly cancelled Gin Festival.

Many thanks to Di for organising, in particular for bringing the list of pre-ordered food so that all pre-ordered and swiftly brought out meals could be placed in front of the right people in our hungry group.

Whitby Adventure Walk by coach

Our Whitby coach is now at 75% capacity. We have a maximum of 15 additional places remaining so whilst the Adventure is still months away please do book on soon to guarantee your place.

We are subsidising the coach, so it will be a maximum of Β£25 per person, but we hope to get that down to Β£20 or below, subject to filling the remaining places on the coach, which we are certainly hopeful of.

Grassington Adventure Walk

Already this coming Sunday we have our next Adventure walk. This time at Grassington. We have a nice group already booked on, but there are still places available. If you would like to lift share please contact walk leader Angela for access to the WhatsApp group.

Chorley Surgery

Thanks to Angela for manning the stand at the first annual Health Mela held at Chorley Surgery this Saturday. The GP surgery brought in a wide range of local service providers to share their wares to an invited population of 52,000 who are patients of a number of Chorley GP surgeries who are collaborating on this initiative to support patients access amazing available services such as Nordic Walking.

Let’s hope other GP surgeries in and around Preston start doing similar events.

Runshaw College Wellbeing Day

It rained all morning, and then the tap just switched off before our first taster session for staff of Runshaw college on Thursday afternoon. Thank you to our Nordic weather god. It was great to have been invited down to the Wellbeing Day for staff and be able to show four groups of staff something new. We had great feedback and even one lady signed up to our next Learn To Nordic Walk course in less than 24 hours of her taster session.

Learn To Nordic Walk

Our next course is this Saturday in Avenham Park at 10:30am. Booking link here.

Have you been floating yet?

Several of our group have already partaken in their first ever float in a sensory deprivation tank. There is always a little bit of apprehension at first, but last month we had great feedback from all those who tried it for the first time.

Nordic Walking Preston has a great deal set up with the Mandala Centre meaning NWP monthly members can access floats for Β£20 a session (the Mandala Centre offers them for Β£35). Even if you are not a monthly member with us you can still access the floats for Β£25, which is a great saving, or potentially up to Β£15 off your monthly membership (depending on how you want to look at it).

If you would like to know more please message Matt, or join our Nordic Floaters Preston group on Facebook.
