Hi there folks,
It was fabulous to experience the iconic annual event of the Grasmere Gallop yesterday. This event has a 34-year history, however this year was new in the fact that it was organised by Pure Outdoor Events, whereas since 2011 it had been organised by the National Trust. Nevertheless, it turned out to be another great event and even included marshalls from our very own family – namely Chris Lomas and Angela Yates who were manning the water station by the caves.
Participating this year were our walk leaders Andy Harrison, Sue Harrison, Angela Clarke and Di Duckworth together with our family members Malcolm Duckworth, George and Sheila Salmon. Elaine Forshaw, Elaine Gray, Catherine Stokes, and our most seasoned Galloper Vicki Hanley.
It was exciting, challenging and emotional and I am pleased and proud for all who did their best simply entering, walking, racing, and supporting each other.
Sometimes we desire a finish time, but always the important part is the showing up. There is always a next time if you desire to improve your personal best on this course. Whilst I can’t influence the weather I am happy to throw in more squats, or hill work, and/or technique tuition should that be of interest. You may even set your sights on the Whinlatter 10k too !!

New Nordic Walking Preston hoodies
We have launched a new item of clothing into our team wear range, namely a grey hoodie all liveried up with Nordic Walking Preston branding.
Chris has the live version, so please check her out on a walk soon and if you are interested in one for yourself please get in touch with the team.
We already have 10 people who have expressed interest via Facebook and your enquiries have been duly noted. Many thanks. Di will provide details on pricing, etc. in the next day or so, on her return from Nordic walking (or was that swimming) in the Lakes.
NWP Fantasy Football
Congratulations to Vicki Hanley who won this year’s first trophy. If you would like to be in the running for the trophy next year please contact Di Duckworth about joining the NWP Fantasy Football group.
For those real football fans who are Liverpool supporters in our group, then congratulations on your team winning last night in Madrid.
What a brilliant evening we 16 ladies had as we travelled to Blackpool for a tasty meal at The Bank (great find there Chris) before walking over to the Opera House to watch the opening night of Joseph. An amazing performance with new sets and some scene changes since I last saw it many years ago…..thought I didn’t see it with Jess Conrad like some! The lead guy from Union J did us proud and sung his heart out for Blackpool. Vicki, Aluna and family even got to meet him before they left
Can’t wait to arrange our next theatre trip so feel free to let me know what you would like to see.
Silverdale Adventure Walk
In a slight change to the schedule, join Sue and Andy on 23rd June for the NWP Adventure Walk around the Arnside and Silverdale AONB. This sister walk of the earlier Arnside AW is taking in more of the Silverdale area including Arnside Tower, the Pepperpot, Jenny Brown’s Point and beautiful views across Morecambe Bay, North into the Lake District, South towards Morecambe and Lancaster, East into the Yorkshire Dales and the Howgills and perhaps even to the Isle of Man to the West.
We will start the walk at 10 am from the National Trust car park on the bottom edge of Eaves Wood, off Red Bridge Lane. The car park is quite small so we will need to maximise car sharing. A WhatsApp group will be created to organise this and other walk information. Please contact Sue or Andy if you want adding to this.
Book your place today via this link.
