Good morning,


what a day yesterday was !

After getting off the coach Ellie got her second wind so by the time I had got her to sleep, well, I passed out. Zonked, wasted, unable to get myself up to send the Sunday email. Cest la vie.


One of the best Adventures yet. Leaving Preston in the driving rain, particularly after such a wonderful Saturday, and in fact summery September week, I can imagine there were some nervous thoughts of “what have we let ourselves in for?”. However, ever hopeful, trusting and believing in our Nordic weather God, and virtually unseeing of the rain these days, I decided all would be well.

We hit Yorkshire and things started brightening up, and by the time we reached Robin Hood’s Bay, well, stories will be told for a good time to come.

After an early start, but a 3-hour coach journey by the time we arrived we decided to have a free wander around the area of Robin Hoods Bay and also to eat lunch. Several of us popped down to the east coast and put our feet in the sea.

We then set off along the Cinder Path, with the sun on our face, and with amazing views out towards…Denmark, Emil and Johnny curiously determined.

Once we had arrived in Whitby we still had plenty of time, so everyone went their merry way to explore parts of the town, the marina, eat Whitby tops, drink cool glasses of beer or cider and, of course, eat fish and chips. Trenchers hit the mark with, for me, one of the best batters I’ve ever had.

We then returned to the coach at the pre-arranged 5pm timeslot so that the coach driver could get us back home safe, and home herself before running out of driver time.

We completed the day with a quiz and an array of spot prizes.

We congratulated Sheila for her Perseverence and Engaging Smile with a certificate of achievement.

Some then dozed off, whilst others engaged in chattering and laughter all the way home.

Great days out like this materialize through the dedication, commitment, and the teamwork of a wonderful, aligned and self-organising team. Thank you Di for organizing the coach. Thank you Sue and Andy for organising the route. Thank you to Sue, Andy, Di, Angela, Steph, Chris, Lenka and Ellie for walk leading and keeping us all together and moving forwards.

Thanks also to the Bake and Take crew of Di, Sue and Janette. Cookies, lemon cake and banana loaf were all quickly consumed and gratefully received. All very yummy.

Thank you to all of YOU too. For being committed to your regular walks and development of your health, fitness and wellbeing, but also for helping co-create such great memories.

It’s Mental

It’s Mental has created a series of Social Active events taking place at David Lloyd in Chorley across the back end of 2019.

“We are launching a series of 12 socially active events for people to attend and gain knowledge and experiences from expert speakers in their specialised field, such as hypnotherapy, Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), nutrition, mindfulness, kindness and gratitude.

Presented in a social setting, this will incorporate mini taster activities i.e walking, meditation, drumming, pilates, sit down exercises and group bonding activities.

The ethos of the event is to elevate mood and therefore will be upbeat alongside this the events”

Matt has been accepted as one of the speakers and will feature on Friday 1st November from 6-8pm.

Prostate Cancer Charity Fundraiser Brew and Bake

Our very own walk leader Paul Gibbs is putting on a Brew and Bake event on the 19th November from 10am-12pm at the YIPS Centre, Nelson Gardens, Inskip.

You are cordially invited to pop down for a brew and cake, a chat, to learn more about the work Prostate Cancer UK does

All the money raised will be invested in radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support to stop prostate cancer being a killer.

Whilst it still may be light at the beginning, the light fades faster now towards the end.


Preston 10k

Please don’t forget to come down and support the members of the group who will be participating in this event this coming Sunday. Your cheering is most welcome. Tip – if you’re at the top of the hill our of Avenham Park you will certainly bring a smile and additional energy to those heading up the hill.
