apologies for no email last week. It was Easter and family Gibbs went away to the Czech Republic to see family. We had a lovely time and some pretty fine weather.
Many thanks for the team for taking care of things whilst we were away.
Let’s all celebrate Helen Frudd this week with her exceptional achievement of coming over the London Marathon finishing line running and smiling. Well done Helen. Helen has been inspiring many in the group with her many dedicated challenges for self-improvement including going sugar-free for 100+ days, undergoing a variety of dietary and lifestyle adjustments to balance energy, emotions, stress and hormones, and not so long ago commencing a Couch to 5k program on an app on her phone. Little did she know back then it would lead to her accomplishment today. Many of the group were cheering you on all day. We look forward to hearing all about it in person soon.
Di Duckworth is giving a last shout out for Nordic Walking Preston T-shirts. If you would like one please get in touch with Di at your earliest opportunity this coming week.
MAY is National Walking Month
In January many in the group participated in the MIND charity RED JANUARY event and there were a lot of miles covered, and a great buzz of energy amongst those participating.
For May we are encouraging all of our members to commit to walking more often (daily if possible), increasing distances generally covered daily, weekly or monthly, and joining us on more of our regular walks. There will be a couple of longer walks too throughout the month.
Please speak to the Social Committee or Walk Leader team about access to any opportunities for motivation and support, or follow posts in the 1000 Friends FB group.
For further tips, advice and motivation you can visit the Living Streets page here.
You may also be interested in joining several members of the group who have chosen to walk the Guild Wheel on Monday 13th May.
You are likely all familiar with me regularly mentioning about the benefits of transdermal application of Magnesium, and soaking in Epsom baths. Well, another great way to do this is to visit a flotation tank. In addition, however, the sensory deprivation of the tank allows you to achieve significant mind-calming results that can take diligent meditators months if not years to achieve. You may have heard Di talking or posting about her experiences, or other members who have been along too to the Mandala Centre in Broughton.
The centre was sold recently to an old primary school friend of mine who is also in training to become a Naturopath.
We aim to visit Paul at the centre this week and discuss opportunities such as an exclusive open evening for members of Nordic Walking Preston.
Here are your walks for this week:
Monday 18:45 – Chorley Wanderer – To Top Lock with Matt
Wednesday 18:15 – Wednesday Workout – Haslam Park with Matt
Friday 9:30am – Friday Roamer – Worden Park with Angela
Saturday 9:15 am – Rise and Shine – Avenham Park with Sue
Have a fantastic week. All the best.
